Ingredients

For the Bread Dough

  • 1 cup Warm Water Essential for yeast activation; make sure it's not too hot to avoid killing the yeast.
  • 2 teaspoons Active Dry Yeast A leavening agent; always check the expiration date for optimal rising.
  • 3 cups All-Purpose Flour Provides structure; use gluten-free flour for a gluten-free adaptation.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Enhances flavor; don’t skip this as it balances the bread’s taste.
  • 2 tablespoons Italian Herbs Brings in robust flavor; swap with fresh herbs for an even more vibrant taste.
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil Adds moisture and flavor; it improves dough handling and creates richness.

For the Cheese

  • 1 cup Shredded Mozzarella Cheese Offers a gooey texture; for a twist, feel free to use sharp cheddar or crumbled feta.
  • 1/2 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese Adds depth of flavor; you can omit or replace it with a dairy-free option for vegan variations.

Instructions

Making the Bread

  • In a small bowl, combine the warm water and active dry yeast. Allow it to sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  • In a larger mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and Italian herbs.
  • Pour the activated yeast mixture and olive oil into your dry ingredients and mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Transfer the mixture onto a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Flatten the dough, sprinkle the mozzarella and Parmesan on top, and knead until the cheese is distributed.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours.
  • Once risen, punch down gently, shape into a boule, and let it rise again for 30-45 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • Score the dough's surface with a knife before baking and bake for 25-30 minutes.
  • Cool on a wire rack for at least 20 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Serve with a drizzle of olive oil and balsamic vinegar for a delightful dipping experience.
