For the Pie Crust

  • 1 pie crust Pie Crust Store-bought or homemade

For the Filling

  • 6 ounces Bacon or Lardons Thick-cut
  • 2 medium Onions Yellow or Vidalia
  • 4 large Eggs
  • 1 cup Heavy Cream Half-and-half can be used as an alternative
  • 1 cup Gruyère Cheese Can substitute with Swiss cheese
  • to taste Salt & Pepper

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Fit the pie crust into a 9-inch pie pan, pricking the base with a fork.
  • Caramelize onions by melting butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook slowly for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally until golden brown.
  • Cook the bacon or lardons in a separate pan until crispy. Drain off excess grease.
  • Whisk together eggs, heavy cream, salt, and pepper in a large bowl until smooth.
  • Fold in the Gruyère cheese, caramelized onions, and crispy bacon into the egg mixture.
  • Pour the filling into the prepared pie crust and bake for 35-40 minutes until set and lightly golden.
  • Cool for a few minutes before slicing.
